Panel Borders in Manga Studio

nedroidcomics:

I was asked on Twitter about making panels in Manga Studio. Here is the method I use. Hopefully it will be helpful to someone!

1. Click the “Rulers” tab in the Layers palette and click “Panel Ruler Layer.”

2. This will create a Panel Ruler Layer. You can then slice this up into your desired panels with the Panel Ruler Cutter:

If you want equally-sized panels, you can select the Panel Ruler, then go to Ruler > Split Panel Ruler and choose how many times to divide it vertically/horizontally.  Keep in mind that if you want irregularly-shaped panels, you can draw directly onto the Panel Ruler Layer with the shape or polygon tools.

Also note that you can change the thickness of the panel borders or the gutters under Preferences > Page > Panels.

3. Once you have the panels laid out to your liking, right-click the Panel Ruler Layer and choose “Rasterize Layer.”

This converts the layer to black panel borders with the gutters filled with opaque white. Just put this on top of your drawing layers. Now you’re ready to draw your comic!

There you go! Comics are just that easy. Computers do everything for you!
